The Customer Need

A prototype with room to grow. Wiring harness assembly sounds simple—until you try it. Onboarding new employees is time-consuming, and mistakes happen before expertise develops. The key question: “Can AR shorten training time and increase the number of parts built correctly on the first try?” Our mission: deliver a prototype that gives answers.

Business Innovation

Fortune favors the bold. The client was eager to break away from clunky manuals and embrace a paperless AR workflow. Our tech experts began by evaluating the must-haves for AR glasses in this environment: size, weight, performance, compatibility. After a joint workshop with the innovation team and smart hardware selection, development of the “AR Guided Worker” app began.

Technical Solution

Agile AR, running on Android. The AR glasses use a video see-through system—imagine a semi-transparent prism projecting virtual overlays. Our dev team built the Android mobile app using Java and the MQTT framework for communication with backend services.

Tech highlights included:

  • MQTT Framework: enabled seamless connection of AR glasses to existing infrastructure, with real-time task updates

  • OpenCV: used for digital image processing and computer vision to keep the system platform-agnostic and flexible

  • AR-Markers: uniquely ID’d markers on wiring components guided the glasses to the right tasks and helped conserve battery life

Big Wins

MVP in action |  Implementing new tech is never easy—but the team was fully on board. Everyone saw the potential for AR to boost both quality and speed. In close and constructive collaboration with blu BEYOND, a prototype was created that proved AR has real value in this production context. Yes, we also saw that existing AR hardware wasn’t quite ready for all-day industrial use—but even so, the achievements speak for themselves:

  • 20 days from idea to live MVP

  • 20% faster assembly process

  • Real-time progress tracking during assembly

  • Significant reduction in production errors
