Team Interview
Jenni
With blu BEYOND since 2001: Jenni is the first point of contact for questions, help and good humour.
Jenni, what does it say on your business card?
BOSS 😉 … No, just kidding, of course. My business card says Office Management – but I feel more like a team assistant, as my door is ALMOST ALWAYS open for questions, help and suggestions from everyone.
You've been with blu BEYOND for a long time – how long exactly?
I've been part of blu BEYOND since January 2001; or rather, it was Skytec AG back then. When all the departments at Skytec AG went their separate ways, Michael Pihan and Michael Büsch brought me on board.
Why do you keep choosing to stay at blu BEYOND?
I come into the office every morning and feel like I've arrived 😊 There were moments when I wondered whether other companies could offer the same atmosphere. But I always came to the same conclusion – ‘NO, I definitely want to stay here.’ I know where I need to go and how to organise my tasks well. Since the birth of my daughter, I have been working part-time at blu and I am very grateful that I was given this opportunity. As my child was extremely premature and had to battle many illnesses, my absences from work after parental leave were almost excessively high. But thanks to blu's acceptance, emotional support and assistance, I was able to take care of my daughter without worry during these difficult times, while also being flexible in my work to fulfil my responsibilities.
Describe blu BEYOND in 3 words
Family, second living room, BEYOND
How has the company changed since you started?
Phu, I've seen so much change that I can't even begin to list it all. But what I can say is that every change, whether good or bad, has always helped blu move forward.
What exactly are your responsibilities in the back office, and what do you particularly enjoy about them?
For me, being on site in the office is my top priority. There is always something to do. I mainly work in finance. Here, I take care of data entry for incoming invoices, credit card statements and expenses. Other tasks include telecommunications, the vehicle fleet, incoming and outgoing mail, and I process many orders. It's great to spend other people's money 😉 But of course, this is mainly for the benefit of the employees. Regular drinks, coffee, sweets, fruit and vegetables and, of course, certain office and work materials on request.
Hand on heart, how often and how much candy, coffee, and drinks do you usually have to order?
These days, I stock up once a month on candy and coffee. Drinks I order every 1–2 weeks, depending on how busy the office is.
What three things are a must for a perfect workday for you?
A big pot of cappuccino, sunshine through the window, and everything going according to plan — I love ticking everything off my list by the end of the day.
You're often the first point of contact for many on the team – what's the best or most annoying part of that role?
That I am one of the first points of contact 😉 — of course, I’m really happy when people need me. But I have to say, the topic of fleet management can definitely get on my nerves. I think I’ve mentioned that loudly a few times 😉 Everything has to be handled individually. Right at the top of the list: “accidents” … your heart always skips a beat at first, because your first thought is for the person involved. Thank God everything has gone well so far and there haven’t been any injuries. Everything else is just material — but those kinds of issues take up a lot of time, and I have to put other things on hold. Then colleagues just see me running through the hallways like a madwoman, rushing past everyone, skipping coffee chats or lunch … it’s nothing personal, I’m just racing against the clock.
Is there a moment or experience at blu BEYOND that has stuck with you?
During a clean-up session, I found a sign and decided to keep it for my office. I see it every day and it always makes me smile:
“Getting upset about things that annoy me annoys me even more, because deep down it annoys me that I’m getting upset!”
And I miss our Chris Veitl ♥
