Team Interview

Pia

From bioinformatics to IT consulting: Pia combines technology, organisation and creativity.

Pia, what does your business card say?

I am employed as an IT consultant at blu BEYOND, and my current position with the client is mainly in the role of application manager.

If you had to summarise your job in one sentence, what would it be?

As an application manager, I am responsible for keeping the application running and planning, coordinating and documenting its further development in accordance with customer requirements and specified quality standards.

What do you enjoy most about your job, and what would you like to do without?

The role requires a certain amount of creativity when it comes to working with developers to translate technical requirements into technical approaches and find elegant solutions to complex problems. Positive feedback from customers provides additional motivation. The complicated software change process in the pharmaceutical environment can be a bit exhausting at times, where even for a few changes in the code, dozens of documents have to be filled out according to precise specifications and then approved by various parties, which takes some time.

In your opinion, what are the essential qualities for your job? (technical, interpersonal, etc.)

I would say it is important to have an eye for detail and be able to work in a structured manner, but at the same time keep an eye on the big picture. Since our RAW2 application is now used internationally (including in Scotland and at various locations in the USA), more and more different use cases are coming together, all of which have to be reconciled. Good communication is essential here, as is the ability to put yourself in both the professional and technical context.

How long have you been working here and why do you keep choosing to stay at blu BEYOND? How did you end up at blu BEYOND?

I've been at blu BEYOND for four years now. What makes working here special for me is above all the great team spirit, the appreciation and support both within the team and from other colleagues. I applied to blu BEYOND right after graduating from university, and less than 10 minutes after sending my application by email, I received a call inviting me to an interview :)

You work in the pharmaceutical industry, right? What makes working there special for you?

That's right, I studied bioinformatics at university and now work at Roche in Penzberg. Working in the pharmaceutical industry means, on the one hand, a lot of precisely defined specifications that must be adhered to exactly and can sometimes make simple tasks very complicated. On the other hand, it also provides exciting insights into the various processes of our customers, both in diagnostics and production.

What's the best way for you to unwind after work?

Lately, I've been enjoying trying out new gyms and sports classes through blu BEYOND's Urban Sports Club membership. Otherwise, you'll regularly find me dancing or hiking in the mountains when the weather is nice.

Describe blu BEYOND in 3 words!

Dynamic, warm, motivated.

You work almost exclusively remotely, right? What is it like working for you and with the team?

That's right, I joined blu BEYOND during the coronavirus lockdown and still work mainly from home, just like the rest of my team. It actually works very well for us. We have a daily status meeting to stay up to date on what everyone is working on, and we often spontaneously co-work via Google Meet when there is something to discuss or someone is stuck on their own. At the same time, I always look forward to our days together on site, both at blu BEYOND and at Roche.
